SHAWN MENDES AND TAINY SHINE LIKE THE SUN AT THE VMAS Hot Girl Summer, meet "Summer of Love." Pop singer-songwriter  Shawn Mendes  and electronic producer-songwriter  Tainy  performed their sun-soaked hit single at the  2021 Video Music Awards  on Sunday (September 12), and they brought the warmth. The set opened with Mendes crooning to the crowd in billowing trousers and a loose-knit striped sweater. Midway through, the stage turned red, and blue lights shone brightly on Mendes and Tainy, who was playing the keys. The lighting became more and more colorful throughout their set until the entire stage resembled a neon-hued sunset. Oh, summer... we miss you already. https://twitter.com/vmas/status/1437227586590027779 Both Mendes and Tainy were  up for VMAs this year : Mendes for Best Pop for his hit single "Wonder," and Tainy for Best Latin for "Una Dia (One Day)," his collab with rapper J. Follow life: Ohio State Buckeyes welcome the Oregon Ducks to the Horseshoe for the 2021 home opener Has it really been almost seven years? Ohio State football will host the Oregon Ducks at noon on Sept. 11 at Ohio Stadium as the two programs meet for the first time since the Buckeyes won their most recent  College Football Playoff championship in January 2015.  The Buckeyes and the Ducks were supposed to play a pair of games with OSU traveling to Eugene, Oregon, in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the game. Ohio State will play Oregon again in 2032 and 2033.  Ohio State, ranked No. 3 in both the coaches and AP polls, is coming off a 45-31 win in which  the Buckeyes trailed at halftime against Minnesota . Meanwhile Oregon, ranked No. 12 in the AP poll and No. 11 in the coaches poll, survived a 31-24 scare from Fresno State as one of the best players in the country, Kayvon Thibodeaux,  suffered an injury.  The 2021 Ohio State football schedule:...

9/11

9/11’s Immigration Legacy By  JULIETA MARTINELLI , ALEJANDRA SALAZAR and  VICTORIA ESTRADA   SEP 10, 2021   HISTORY   IMMIGRATION   NEWS   PODCASTS   POLITICS September 11, 2001 was a paradigm shift. It is considered the deadliest terrorist attack in world history: nearly 3,000 people died and thousands more sustained lifelong injuries, depression, and PTSD. After the World Trade Center fell, a traumatized nation lived in terror of another attack, and amid the chaos, the United States set out to prioritize national safety above all. The 24-hour news cycle of the attacks focused endlessly on the identity of the terrorists: non-citizens who had been able to exploit “vulnerabilities” in the immigration system. In the eyes of the United States, “national safety” required an urgent revamp of the system—and the public agreed. People were willing to grant full control to government agencies under the guise that they’d keep Americans...

NFL

Tom Brady, Buccaneers get 2021 NFL season off to a fiery start TAMPA -- On the night the Tampa Bay Buccaneers inflated two silver Lombardi Trophies, unveiled a video featuring pirate ships, swords, fire, and players in the midst of it all, and followed it with a video of those same players proclaiming how happy they are that fans are back, the NFL's season opener managed to reward fans -- all fans -- on their long-awaited return to football. The smoke, the raucousness, the flag-waving, the noise. The resilience. The relentlessness. All of it was back, a reminder of what millions of fans around the country had missed seeing in person last season, and a promise for what both the Bucs and Cowboys could deliver in the new one. It seemed entirely fitting that fans here screamed for the come-from-behind field goal, which was kicked with seven seconds remaining in the 31-29 thriller before it had even cleared the plane of the 5-yard line. Bucs fans had waited a long time -- through a pa...
